Bio-stimulator (Sculptra)
Bio-stimulator (Sculptra)
Unlike dermal fillers, Bio-stimulators have no volume itself; it comes in a powder form and is reconstituted with water for injection. It behaves like a fertiliser to the skin, stimulating collagen production over time (about 3-4 months). Bio-stimulator Injections help address age-related volume loss, improve skin texture and quality, and create a natural, youthful appearance that lasts.
Bio-stimulators are composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible and biodegradable substance that encourages the body’s natural collagen production. Collagen is a vital component responsible for maintaining skin’s elasticity, firmness, and volume. As we age, collagen production decreases, leading to a loss of facial volume and the appearance of sagging skin.
During the Bio-stimulator treatment, the product is strategically injected into specific areas of the face. Over time, the poly-L-lactic acid stimulates the production of new collagen, restoring volume and improving skin texture. The gradual collagen stimulation process ensures natural-looking results that develop over several weeks, providing a subtle and youthful transformation.
Before the procedure begins, a topical anesthetic may be applied or a local anaesthetic will be administered to ensure your comfort during the treatment. The medical practitioner will assess your facial structure, discuss your aesthetic goals, and develop a customised treatment plan based on your unique needs.
During the treatment, Bio-stimulator is skillfully injected into targeted areas using a cannula. The practitioner will strategically distribute the product to address specific areas of volume loss or sagging. The procedure typically takes around 30 minutes, depending on the extent of treatment required.
After the Bio-stimulator treatment, you may experience mild swelling, redness, or tenderness at the injection sites. These effects are temporary and typically resolve within a few days. Proper aftercare is crucial to optimise your results and ensure a smooth recovery. Please follow the instructions below:
- Starting the day after your treatment, gently massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day for 5 days. This helps distribute the product evenly and minimises the risk of nodules or lumps. Use clean hands and gentle pressure while massaging.
- If you experience any swelling or discomfort, you may apply cold compresses to the treated areas. Use a clean cloth or ice pack wrapped in a cloth and apply it for 10-15 minutes at a time. Avoid applying ice directly to the skin.
- For at least 24 hours after the treatment, avoid excessive heat, such as saunas, hot tubs, and prolonged sun exposure. Heat can increase swelling and interfere with the healing process. If you must be in the sun, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF to protect the treated areas.
- You may resume your regular makeup and skincare routine 24 hours after the treatment. Use gentle products and avoid harsh exfoliants or chemical peels for at least one week.
- To minimise the risk of infection and ensure proper healing, keep the treated areas clean and avoid exposing them to dirty or contaminated environments.
Bio-stimulator Injections are designed to deliver gradual results that develop over time. As collagen production is stimulated, you will notice a gradual improvement in facial volume, skin texture, and overall facial contours. The results of Bio-stimulator Injections can last up to two years, providing a long-lasting solution for age-related volume loss and facial rejuvenation.
Most individuals require three to four initial treatments as part of the building phase, spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the severity of wrinkles or volume loss being treated. To maintain the results of Bio-stimulators thereafter, periodic touch-up treatments may be recommended on a yearly basis. These treatments help sustain the collagen stimulation and the restored volume, allowing you to enjoy your rejuvenated appearance for an extended period.
